Here you have a list of three candidates worldwide who are trying to push Bitcoin as part of their government plans.
Vivek Ramaswamy
Ramaswamy is an entrepreneur and Republican candidate in the U.S. He’s the second most popular candidate among Republicans, just behind Donald Trump as per some polls. Ramaswamy declared his candidacy for the 2024 Presidential election in February 2023.
Ramaswamy announced he was working on a “comprehensive crypto policy framework” at Messari’s Mainnet crypto conference in September. Vivek’s campaign is accepting bitcoin donations, as he announced at the Bitcoin Conference in May 2023.
“Competition breeds innovation. Bitcoin should not be regulated as a security,” Ramaswamy expressed at the conference. Besides his interest in a crypto policy framework, the Republican candidate expressed in September 2022 that he had been “uneducated” in the matter through his X account.
Javier Milei
The Argentinian economist is currently a Deputy on the Chamber of Deputies of the Argentine Nation and head of the libertarian movement La Libertad Avanza. He’s leading the primary polls among opposition leaders to run for the presidential elections in October 2023. Milei is one of the most known advocates of libertarianism and the Austrian economy ideas.
His popularity is surging not only in Argentina but worldwide. For example, his interview with the American journalist Tucker Carlson, published in mid-September, is one of the most viewed videos in X, with over 421 million impressions on the platform.
One of the critical elements of his agenda is the dollarization of the Argentinian economy. As part of this proposal, Milei has been underscoring how important it is to eliminate the Central Bank of Argentina, talking about the opportunity that bitcoin could offer for this process. Despite this, whether he will regulate or promote bitcoin and cryptocurrencies if elected is still being determined.
Indira Kempis
Kempis is currently a Senator of the Republic in the LXV Legislature of the Congress of the Union for the Movimiento Ciudadano party. In late August, she announced her intention to become the first woman to become a Presidential candidate in Mexico amid internal disputes over the party’s future.
Senator Kempis is known among Bitcoin and crypto advocates, as she’s been vocal about the opportunity its early adoption could mean to Mexico. As Bitcoin Magazine reported, she also promoted the possibility of a Bitcoin Law a la El Salvador for Mexico. She also participated in several related activities, like a course on My First Bitcoin certified in her natal Nuevo Leon province.
Other Politicians Are Looking For The Bitcoin Train
Besides Ramaswamy, Milei, and Kempis, several politicians worldwide are trying to fit Bitcoin into their agenda. Canada’s Pierre Poilievre, U.S.’s John F. Kennedy Jr., Costa Rica’s Johana Obando, and Panama’s Gabriel Silva are other politicians trying to push Bitcoin legislations or agendas into their countries.
El Salvador’s President, Nayib Bukele, is the most known character in the Bitcoin-politicians field, with a specific law approved in 2021 making bitcoin legal tender in his country.
